mission and inspiration
Donyea’s mission is to activate the visual senses of the listener through colors and textures in sound design and composition. He seeks to make modern production feel nostalgic and familiar through his “less is more” approach.
He believes the right piece of composition can influence the perspective of what the eye sees and how worlds are perceived. He draws inspiration from works like “The Wiz” by Quincy Jones, George Duke’s “Illusions” album, the compositions of the great John Williams, and scores from the Willy Wonka films by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley.
Those influences can be felt in the sprawling string arrangements, dazzling sound design, electrifying show programming, and passionate musicianship which are hallmarks of his work. He shows real competency in composition, production, and performance which makes him a sought after contributor to productions both domestic and abroad.
“Don’t be afraid of your authentic sound. don’t shy from opportunities to learn from others.”
THE NEXT GENERATION:
Given his longevity in music production, Donyea occupies a special place in the collective consciousness of musicians, producers, and aficionados alike for his bold and adventurous approach to music creation. Through his newly developed courses, he aims to reach as many fledging producers as possible to empower them with the skills to become bold and adventurous music makers themselves.
AWAY FROM THE DESK:
When he isn’t producing, Donyea spends his time passively gaming, making oil paintings of lush landscapes, baking cakes, and cooking.
